09 August 2006  Younger drivers given cheaper motor insurance
Drivers between the age of 18 and 25 are to be given cheaper motor insurance from one provider, according to recent reports.

More Than has said it will give a 40 per cent discount to drivers who do not travel between 23:00 BST and 09:00 BST, since a quarter of accidents occur between these times with younger motorists behind the wheel.

Black box technology is to be used to ensure drivers avoid the roads at these times, with a £25 penalty imposed if they are caught failing to abide by the rules.

Bryan Turner, a spokesperson for More Than, commented: "High accident rates for young drivers on the roads at night are a major issue and we have been working for some time to come up with a solution to reduce these."

The scheme entitled DriveTime is initially available as a pilot scheme for around 2,000 vehicles, with participants interested able to apply via the company's website.
