23 November 2006 Warning to drivers over cold weather Erratic cold spells this winter could cause dangerous conditions for drivers, a car insurance company has claimed.
Figures from Prudential Car Insurance reveal that November 2005 was the month with the highest rate of accidents last year, showing a 13 per cent rise.
The research also revealed that while 72 per cent of motorists in the UK have previously broken down, 16 per cent of car-drivers do not have any breakdown cover.
Phil Southgate, media relations manager at the company, said: "Allowing just a little extra time for each journey and being ultra vigilant at this time of year could help prevent against becoming involved in an accident on the winter roads."
He added that drivers should check the details of their car insurance to ensure they are covered for breakdowns, which could prove essential at this time of year.
Price comparison company moneysupermarket.com recently reported that there is an increase in car accidents when the clocks are turned back each year.
