13 December 2006  Christmas shoppers admit to parking stress
Drivers in Britain are admitting to becoming stressed when looking for parking spaces as they embark on their Christmas shopping, an online car insurance firm has revealed.

Research by swiftcover.com has found that 65 per cent of drivers feel agitated when looking for car parking spaces, with a further 14 per cent becoming upset by the parking of other drivers.

Furthermore, 73 per cent of drivers reported their car being hit or scraped in car parks, with 80 per cent not claiming for the damage on their car insurance, as many feel the damage is too small to make it worthwhile.

Craig Staniland, underwriting director at swiftcover.com, said: "With the added stress levels of fighting other frantic shoppers for limited parking spaces during the festive period, we're advising drivers to take a deep breath and chill out a little."

He added that it the statistics of cars hit while parked was "staggering."

Last month, Sainsbury's Car Insurance claimed that many accidents that occur on British roads could be avoided as they are the result of bad driving habits, such as driving while tired or speeding.
